About alberto de leon(Russian designed wooden houses)vox-60   http://englishrussia.com/2008/04/20/old-russian-luxury-houses/                 .............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. .             Some great masterpieces of Russian medieval wooden architecture were built without an architect and perfectly preserved. And others were abandoned and undisturbed because they stayed deep inside the Russian forest. It was very unique to Russian style of building large and big wooden houses of genuine Russian design.  ................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................          Brick architecture had penetrated in the Russian North by the end of the 18th- beginning of the 19th centuries.  Wooden architecture was replaced by stone architecture very quickly. As the number of commissions for the building of wooden churches decreases, teams of carpenters broke up and the carpenter's building culture started disappearing. Of course, wooden architecture still existed in the North, but with time it was limited by the construction of dwelling houses and service buildings, and though religious buildings were constructed, they lost features characteristics to the folk architecture. By the end of the 19th - beginning of the 20th century "Northern modern(ist) style" dominates in the wooden architecture under the influence of which experience gained during erection of wooden towns, fortresses, churches, was gradually forgotten. As the second reason.   why not only carpenter's skill but also carpenter's way of thinking of the 17th- 18th centuries were lost, we can name active use of sawn materials in the construction of the North in the 19th century as well as in the construction of the dwelling buildings.

Old Russian Luxury Houses 1
If nowadays rich Russians prefer red-brick houses of strange design, many years ago some other fashion was ruling the minds of Russian high society. It was a unique to Russia style of building large wooden houses of genuine Russian design. They had an ability to build houses from stone, like in Europe, but preferred wood on purpose, they liked wood, the feeling of the wooden house.

Russian Wooden Pillars 1
Since the ancient Greece and Egypt many architects used pillars in the houses they built. Even nowadays some people use pillars to add some kind of style to their houses. In Russia pillars were also used during Stalin era in different Soviet Palaces and even regular houses. But before, in 19th century, in Russian villages there was also fashion for pillars and they made them of… wood. Like in the building on these photos.

Some other masterpieces of Russian medieval wooden architecture were found abandoned.
Some of them look like they are just left – even some furniture stays on its places. The reason they are so undisturbed – it stays deep inside the Russian forests.
